Séminaire de Stéphane BRESSANELLI (Virologie Moléculaire et Structurale, Gif-sur-Yvette) Mardi 21 Mai en à l’IBCP à 14 h 00. "One protein, many assemblies. Membrane fusion by a single viral glycoprotein involves formation of radically different pH-dependent oligomers."
Enveloped viruses enter cells through a membrane fusion reaction driven by conformational changes of viral fusion glycoproteins. For some of these fusion glycoproteins, crystal structures have provided atomic, static pictures of pre- and post-fusion conformations. Thus, in different pH conditions the vesiculovirus (family Rhabdoviridae) fusion protein G may form two kinds of symmetric, trimeric spikes. Each trimer is made of a different folding state of G.
